"Forest Dreaming" was accepted for solo show at the California State University at Monterey Bay’s Center for Arts and Culture in Salinas, California for June 2020*. 

About Fort Ord

Bonnie has been living, hiking, mountain biking, and taking pictures for 23 years on the stunning central coast of California, at the former Fort Ord U.S. Army Base. The Fort Ord National Monument includes 22 square miles of sublime and sturdy marine chaparral and native coastal oak woodlands, dotted with vernal ponds, innumerable species of plants and wildlife, and miles and miles of maintained trails. (Shout out to MORCA-Monterey Off Road Cycling Association for their devoted volunteer care of the trails).

Acknowledging the History of the Land

The paintings in this series express Bonnie’s reverence, appreciation, and joy for the elements of Nature that coalesce and coexist in this spectacular landscape. Bonnie is a part of the sacred and challenging history of this land and all the Peoples who have known or loved it. Bonnie wishes to acknowledge the indigenous histories that go back 14,000 years, knowing that this Earth, this soil, these breathtaking spaces have belonged to and been cherished by others, have inspired other names, meanings, and memories. Her memories are built with awareness and honoring of these ancestors.

The paintings are oil on canvas.  They comprise a collection of moments captured mostly from the mountain bike on a cell phone camera, and rendered in an impressionistic way to evoke a sensual experience of Nature through color, texture, movement, space, and place.
